“Excitement, peace, energy, joy, danger, and colourful” are a few of the words viewers share with me when they see my recent paintings. Each of these words describes how I feel about my Ontario country and city landscape.
The light on display captures my eye revealing the diversity of colour, tactile texture, line, and shape. The abstract freedom of the impasto gestural stroke and my atypical perspective captures the moment.
Studying art history has opened my understanding for why and how I paint. Encouraged by John Leonard, RCA and Denis Cliff, RCA I have found affinity with the Canadian Automatistes (JP Riopelle), and American abstract artists (J Pollock, Joan Mitchell), and colour field artists such as Milton Avery and Peter Kolisnyk. |
